Banjo & Kazooie are finally in Super Smash Bros! There is a god and his name is Masahiro Sakurai. The latest Nintendo Direct was awesome. Even not including all the Smash stuff there was plenty of exciting stuff shown off but counting the Smash stuff, it was dream after dream after dream come true. Banjo & Kazooie shadow dropped, Terry Bogard’s confirmed for Smash, more DLC characters are coming, Home-Run Contest is back, Sans is in Smash and he’s brought Megalovania with him, no more new modes will be added! Oh wait. Look, September Fourth is going to go down as the best day of 2019 for me, and I was miserable pre-Direct, I just want it to be explicitly clear that I left this Direct with nothing but gratitude for all the hard work that Sakurai and his team continue putting into Smash Bros. That said, hearing that there’d be no new modes did sting a little because ever since they added Stage Builder, my mind’s been flooded with other additions that could reasonably add to Ultimate, and let me tell you, VR wasn’t one of them, Home-Run contest was though! Cause Smash Ultimate is a top contender for my favorite game of all-time, and it’s so close to perfect that in my opinion, so today I just want to celebrate my favorite game by complaining about what’s not in it!

Invader Zim is back, baby! After Avatar: The Last Airbender, Invader Zim is my favorite series that Nickelodeon’s ever done, and after Enter The Florpus, Invader Zim might just have reclaimed the top spot. I mean, that’s probably just recency bias talking Avatar: The Last Airbender is freaking great but Enter the Florpus is absolutely fantastic as well. It not only perfectly encapsulates everything that made the original series so great, except for Ms. Bitters and yes I’m Mr. Bitters about that, but it takes everything that made it so beloved in the past and cranks it up to the most absurdist extreme. Enter the Florpus reaches heights of unbridled lunacy that the original run never comes close to, and if you’re a fan of Invader Zim and haven’t watched Enter the Florpus, you’re doing yourself a great disservice. If you never even seen Zim and for some reason decided to read this blog, Enter the Florpus doesn’t exactly require prior knowledge to work so you should also give it a watch to see why this franchise was popular enough to get this revival movie in the first place. Regardless of your circumstances, if you haven’t seen Enter the Florpus yet, I am going to spoiler very important bits from it so I highly advise you to return to this blog after watching it because today, I want to discuss four elements from Enter the Florpus that I absolutely adored, the four most interesting parts of Enter The Florpus. That was your spoiler warning, for everyone else, let’s begin discussing the Four Plus’ of the Florpus.

E3 is the most exciting time to be a gamer and it’s fast approaching. Even with Sony pulling out this year, there’s still plenty I’m eagerly anticipating to see. Of course, nothing excites me more than new Smash characters, we’re certainly going to at least get the next DLC character revealed, potentially the next two. But it’s a little upsetting knowing they’re going to be fully fledged characters instead of echo fighters. While I always enjoy entirely new characters with unique gameplay, I far prefer playing as the same exact character except this time, Toad is blue. I kid, but I do really enjoy echo fighters. While I’m sure more work goes into them than one might expect, it’s still significantly less work to develop them. It allows us to have a higher amount of characters on the roster, and more representation of favorite gaming characters that otherwise wouldn’t get to be playable if it wasn’t for the lower development time, is something I truly appreciate. Especially when they have differences, some are pretty disappointingly the exact same like the aforementioned Daisy, but Chrom is a really cool instance with some unique moves thrown in. So I may actually prefer that we’re getting unique characters for DLC and can’t wait to see who’s announced, I would equally mark out if they also announced that they were doing an Echo Fighters pass. It would probably cost roughly the same as the Fighters Pass, but would feature ten characters as opposed to five.

For 660 days, WWE was under the tyranny of Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship reign. For close to two years straight, Brock Lesnar reigned as Universal Champion, barely appearing and defending resigning Raw to a state of stagnation that many fans lamented. We were only giving a brief reprieve with Roman Reigns, but thanks to Cancer that got cancelled, and instead of doing something they should’ve done at SummerSlam the year prior and put the Championship on Braun Strowman, WWE defaulted back to Brock Lesnar. Lesnar’s runs with the Championship will likely never be remembered as anything other than a gigantic blight on a Championship with little highlights to speak of. Thankfully, at WrestleMania 35, hallelujah, Seth Rollins won the Championship in a match that can only be described as a relief.

The Women’s Evolution. Women finally being treated like legitimate competitors and receiving similar treatment to the men has become a normalized part of the WWE product for a while now. They’re still hitting new milestones sure, like the re-introduction of the Women’s Tag Team Championships or giving them their own solo PPV broadcast but with the constant historical first-ever’s it can be easy to lose sight at how monumental some of these instances really are. This upcoming WrestleMania is guaranteed to close for the first time ever with the Women’s match, a triple threat between reigning champion Ronda Rousey, and challengers Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair. Six years ago WrestleMania 29 didn’t even feature women’s wrestling period in any capacity, and it wasn’t really until 32 that they were given proper time and investment. This is a big deal, yet that progress up the card doesn’t seem too crazy, it seems like it’s about time. Because for years, the women have been providing some of the best content the WWE churns out, and of all the wonderful talent they possess, none of them have impressed me as much or as consistently as Asuka.

While I didn’t watch nearly as much anime I have in years prior, the cream of the crop from 2017 ranks among the best I’ve ever seen in anime. Continue reading “Top Ten Favorite Anime of 2017”

Season four may currently stand as my least favorite season in the show but that doesn’t mean it didn’t deliver some of the best episodes in the series. Continue reading “Top Ten Favorite Season Four Episodes”

Season four of Steven Universe was not welcomed with universal acclaim during its initial run. While both the Bombs and select episodes like “Mindful Education” were lauded right out of the gate, anyone who peruses the show’s subreddit would’ve seen criticism lobbed against the season for the abundance of Beach City residents episodes and the lack of any Homeworld threat to propel the narrative arc forward for longer than a five episode stretch. And while I do agree that the disparity in quality between the human and gem episodes was an issue, in hindsight the brilliance of that structure has shown itself.
